Global health professionals are calling for the creation of a $2 billion fund aimed to developing potential vaccinations against fatal disease like Ebola, West Nile and MERS, according to Reuters.

Here are five things to know:

1. The fund will link early stage drug discovery work with late stage development and large-scale clinical trials crucial to getting a new vaccine in the market.

2. Professionals are seeking funds from governments, foundations and the pharmaceutical industry in addition to travel and insurance industries.

3. Resources would be allocated toward manufacturing vaccines to globally accepted standards as well as early and mid-stage clinical trials. The trials were developed to test safety as well as proof-or-concept ensuring the vaccine will generate an immune response.
