Ebola, dengue, yellow fever all detected with a paper test: 5 things to know

A new paper-based test can detect Ebola, dengue and yellow fever with one reading, according to takepart.

Here are five things to know:

1. MIT and Harvard Medical School researchers created the test.

2. The paper-based test is not intended to replace laboratory tests, but rather is an option for remote areas of the world.

3. The paper will change color to reveal a virus, once in contact with a patient's blood.

4. The immediacy of the test's results could provide a defense against the spread of these deadly viruses, as physicians could quarantine patients.

5. Laboratory tests are required to confirm the accuracy of the reading.
