Conference discusses how human factors influence patient safety — 4 highlights

Last week, Isle of Man held its second safety conference for Department of Health and Social Care staff, according to isle of man.com.

Here are four highlights:

1. The conference discussed the many human factors which impact the quality of care.

2. Speakers included Jeff Goudling, assistant director of human factors at Aintree Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom. Mr. Goulding discussed creating a safety culture with a human factors approach.

3. Experts discussed the importance of consent and mental capacity, as well as the use of patient safety tools.

4. Howard Quayle, minister for health and social care, said, "The Department is committed to improving safety by respecting the trust people place in us and working constantly to prevent harm to our customers and staff. The safety of those who use the health and social care service is fundamental to the delivery of high quality care. Patient safety includes the governance systems in place to deliver that care."
