CMS Delays Quality Reporting Measure ASC-11 Implementation

Laura Dyrda -

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has delayed implementing the ASC-11 quality reporting measure until Jan. 1, 2015, according to an ASCA News report.

ASCs will not have to report the new ASC-11 quality measure, "Cataracts: Improvement in Patient's Visual Function within 90 Days Following Cataract Surgery" until next year. ASCA staff has been in constant communication with CMS quality reporting staff to voice concerns about the measure since it was proposed and worked closely with a coalition of ophthalmology societies to influence CMS and raise awareness in congress about issues with the measure, according to the report.

The delay does not impact data collection for ASC-9 and ASC-10. Data collection on those measures began April 1.
