CDC, Vermont Oxford Network partner to combat antibiotic overuse, misuse — 5 notes

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Vermont Oxford Network formed a partnership to address antibiotic resistance.

Here are five notes:

1. To promote antibiotic appropriate use, the CDC created core elements for hospital-based antibiotic stewardship programs.

2. Through its partnership with the CDC, VON will incorporate these elements into its upcoming quality improvement collaborative, iNICQ 2016: Choosing Antibiotics Wisely curriculum. The curriculum engages neonatal teams in achieving measurable outcomes.

3. CDC and VON's collaboration will center on areas including enhanced communications, increased monitoring of infections and antibiotic use, implementation of best practices for the prevention of infections and the establishment of appropriate prescription, dose and duration for antibiotic.

4. Teams participating in the collaboration will integrate the antibiotic stewardship programs with VON's leadership.

5. Vermont Oxford Network is a nonprofit collaboration of healthcare professionals aiming to change the landscape of neonatal care.
