Can surveillance improve healthcare worker safety? CDC thinks so

Surveillance may be the answer to improving safety and reducing healthcare worker injuries, according to a recent report by the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Data collected from the CDC's Occupational Health Safety Network, a voluntary surveillance system, found there were 10,680 Occupational Safety and Health Administration-recordable injuries from Jan. 1, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2014 among 112 facilities. Nurses were also found to have had the highest injury rates, reports DoctorsLounge.com.

The CDC noted because of the data collected from the system, OHSN can offer institutions tools to work toward improved safety and injury-prevention strategies.
