ASC Quality Report: 7 Statistics

The ASC Quality Collaboration has released a report on six facility-level quality measures of ASCs, collected from July 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2013.

Here are seven quality performance statistics from the past year. Data were self-reported by voluntary participants in the ASC Quality Collaboration.

1. The average rate of falls in ASCs during the data collection period was 0.131 per 1,000 admissions.

2. The average rate of falls fell by 18 percent over the data collection period, from 0.152 per 1,000 admissions in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 0.125 per 1,000 admissions in third quarter of 2013.

3. The average rate of burns remained relatively constant, at 0.025 per 1,000 admissions in fourth quarter of 2012 to 0.024 per 1,000 admissions in third quarter of 2013.

4. Hospital transfer or admission rates decreased by 14 percent, from 1.317 per 1,000 admissions in fourth quarter of 2012 to 1.132 per 1,000 admissions in third quarter of 2013.

5. The average rate of wrong site, side, patient, procedure or implant over the data collection period was 0.0295 per 1,000 admissions.

6. Ninety-nine percent of ASC admissions that ordered antibiotics received them on time.

7. Ninety-nine percent of ASC admissions also had appropriate surgical site hair removal procedures.
