Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Ohio Independent Collaborative launch patient-centered arrangement — 4 takeaways

To reduce healthcare costs and improve quality, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the physicians of Ohio Independent Collaborative launched a patient-centered arrangement for Anthem Medicare Advantage members.

Here are four takeaways:

1. The arrangement is the first major payer contract for OIC and went into effect Jan. 1, 2016.

2. The arrangement aims to control costs by providing greater preventive care, better care coordination and effective chronic disease management.

3. Anthem will increase revenue opportunities for participating providers and will provide a team of experts in patient-centered care.

4. OIC physicians are required to meet performance goals including clinical quality measures as identified by the CMS that align with the Medicare Stars and the National Committee on Quality Assurance to participate in the program.

"This agreement with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield serves as a testimony to the leadership of the Ohio Independent Collaborative as we continue to pave the way for independent physician collaboration and improved patient care," said Gary Pinta, MD, president, OIC. "Our Anthem partnership allows us to offer lowered costs and improved quality to patients — it's a win-win."
