An unlikely asset: Bloodthirsty spiders could help fight malaria — 4 key points

A recent study found a jumping spider, called Evarcha culicivora, can help in the fight against malaria, according to The Washington Post.

Here are four key points:

1. The spiders mainly feed on the blood of mosquitoes, which are primary carriers of malaria.

2. The spiders are attracted to human body odor, but researchers state that the spiders will not attack humans.

3. The insects do not have the adequate mouth equipment to bite humans.

4. The spiders will not completely eradicate malaria but should be considered an asset as part of the defense against malaria.
