Tom Frieden, MD, director of CDC, said the agency is running out of time to combat the Zika virus, according to The Hill.
Here are five notes:
1. Congress has failed to reach an agreement about Zika funding.
2. Both the House and Senate's funding bills are less than the $1.9 billion President Obama requested. Of the $1.9 billion, the CDC would receive $828 million to combat Zika.
3. Dr. Frieden supports the Senate's $1.1 billion emergency funding package. The House bill allotted $622 million to fight Zika.
4. After failed attempts of approving a funding bill, the House and Senate will meet in June on their two funding bills.
5. However, Dr. Frieden argues time is crucial to combat Zika and said, "We have a narrow window of opportunity to scale up effective Zika prevention measures, and that window of opportunity is closing."
