A Transcend Insights survey found patients have fairly high expectations for medical information sharing.
Here are four highlights:
1. Ninety-seven percent of patients said it is vital for all health institutions to have access to the patient's full medical history to provide high quality care.
2. Ninety-two percent of patients said having access to their own medical records is their top priority.
3. Regarding their main priority, 93 percent said they wanted providers to readily share and receive vital information concerning their medical history.
4. A Journal of the American Medical Association study found 34.7 percent of specialists obtain patient information from their referring primary care physicians, even if the PCP tries to share patient records.
