5 quick facts on APIC's new program 'Take the Pledge'

"Take the Pledge" is a new long-term care infection program presently available on APIC's LTC web page.

Here are five quick facts on the program:

1. The tool advises healthcare facility leaders, frontline staff, residents and family members to adhere to various technical skills imperative for preventing infections in LTC facilities.

2.  The four skills the program outlines are:

•    Hand hygiene
•    Environmental cleaning
•    Standard precautions
•    Antimicrobial stewardship

3. "Take the Pledge" was devised by APIC and Health Research an Educational Trust under contract to the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality.

4. The tool was launched as part of the train-the-trainer materials for the AHRQ Safety Program for Long-Term Care; HAIs/CAUTI.

5. The AHRQ project emphasizes reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infection and other healthcare-associated infections in nursing homes and LTC facilities.
