4 things to know about CDC's new antibiotic resistance data tool

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention unveiled an interactive tool that allows providers to see how antibiotic resistance for four bacteria has changed during the past 18 years.

Here are four things to know:

1. The four bacteria are Campylobacter, E. coli O157, Salmonella and Shigella.

2. The tool is called the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System Now: Human Data.

3. It allows users to access antibiotic resistance data by bacteria, antibiotic, year and geographic region.

4. This system tracks antibiotic resistance in food borne and other bacteria found in the gut through coordinated efforts among the CDC, FDA, U.S. Department of Agriculture as well as state and local health departments.
