ASC Leader to Know: Dr. John Caruso of Parkway Surgery Center
John Caruso, MD, has more than 16 years of neurological surgery experience and currently offers his medical expertise at Neurosurgical Specialists and serves as founder, chairman of the board and medical director of Parkway Surgery Center and Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute in Hagerstown, Md. The surgery center, a Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners facility, specializes in providing comprehensive spine treatments and non-invasive surgical procedures.
Long recognized as a physician leader, Dr. Caruso is co-founder of "Save Our Doctors, Protect Our Patients," a physician rights group that brought liability reform awareness to Maryland, and a board member of the Maryland State Surgical Association and a national spokesman for Doctors for Medical Liability Reform. In an interview with Blue Chip, Dr. Caruso said successful and efficient integration of healthcare delivery is dependent upon several critical factors, including support from high-quality practitioners in neurology, electrophysiology, therapy, sports medicine and more.
"So the evolution of my practice has been to become a one-stop shop for spine care," Dr. Caruso said.
Dr. Caruso received his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed his three-year residency at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine, both in Norfolk. After completing a two-year residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, he started work with his current practice, Neurosurgical Specialists.
