Donald Schellpfeffer, MD, is CEO of Medical Facilities Corp., which owns a majority interest in four specialty surgical hospitals, located in South Dakota and Oklahoma, as well as a majority interest in an ambulatory surgery center in California. The company has demonstrated its ongoing success, having recently reported increased revenues of $220.8 million in 2011, compared to $217.9 million in 2010."We are pleased to report another year of increasing revenues and operating incomes in 2011," said Dr. Schellpfeffer earlier this year. He said the company encountered positive case mix and increased pain management procedures at some centers, offset in part by declines in volume and less favorable case and payor mixes in other facilities.
In addition to serving at the helm of Medical Facilities Corp., Dr. Schellpfeffer currently serves as medical director of Sioux Falls Surgical Center, which he co-founded, and president of Anesthesia Associates, the largest anesthesia services provider in South Dakota. He earned his medical degree from University of South Dakota School of Medicine and completed a residency in anesthesiology in Wisconsin.
