Curtis Rooney is president of The Healthcare Supply Chain Association, a healthcare trade organization that focuses on healthcare cost control. Mr. Rooney has served as president of HSCA, formerly known as the Health Industry Group Purchasing Association, for six years.
HSCA recently publicly expressed its support of generic drug user fees. The FDA began collecting the fees Oct. 1. The fees will help ensure the FDA has the ongoing ability to approve effective and affordable generic medications.
"Timely access to effective and affordable medications is critical for American hospitals and patients. HSCA applauds both government and industry for each doing their part to help protect uninterrupted patient access to important treatments," Mr. Rooney said. "Group purchasing organizations are engines of healthcare cost savings and the purchasing partners to America's 5,000-plus hospitals. GPOs are acutely aware of the important role of generic prescriptions drugs in helping to control healthcare spending."
