Blayne Rush, MHP, MBA, is the president of Ambulatory Alliances, a management firm based in Richmond, Va., that focuses on surgery center brokerage and physician recruitment.

Blayne Rush is the president of Ambulatory Alliances.Mr. Rush brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare, strategic planning and financial analysis, including more than a decade of experience working exclusively in the ambulatory marketplace. He has completed acquisition searches for more than 200 healthcare clients to date.

Mr. Rush earned his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in health promotions from McNeese State University. He also holds an MBA from Amber University and has completed graduate coursework in mediation and advanced negotiations at Southern Methodist University.

Mr. Rush discussed the importance of physicians directly recruiting other physicians with Becker's ASC Review. Although physicians are busy, he said, reaching out to other physicians as potential recruits is important to a center's profitability and success. "This support can take form in a variety of ways, including speaking with new recruits, giving tours, attending new recruit open houses, making phones calls and agreeing to write letters to potential utilizers," he said. "The role of individual current owners will depend on their personalities and comfort level, but nonetheless, all owners should accept, as part of their ownership mindset, the responsibility to be part of the recruitment process."
