ASC Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Timothy Kremchek of Beacon Orthopedics
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Kremchek completed his orthopedic residency at Tufts University and a one-year orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at the Alabama Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, where he worked under the direction of James Andrews, MD, and Lawrence Lemak, MD.
Dr. Kremchek’s professional interests range from advanced arthroscopic repair of the shoulder and knee injuries to total joint reconstructions and joint replacements. He has been featured on HBO’s Real Sports program regarding youth baseball injuries and in ESPN Magazine, Sports Illustrated and USA Today regarding other medical topics.
In an interview with Becker's ASC Review discussing success factors for orthopedics in surgery centers, Dr. Kremchek said, "Develop a relationship between the people in your office and those at the ASC so that information can easily go back and forth, and there are no lapses in communication." Frequent communication helps ensure that the ASC schedules cases properly, obtains accurate and complete patient information and understands physicians' preferences, he added. For example, if a physician is performing a meniscus repair, his or her office staff should automatically communicate information about the instrumentation the ASC so that there is no missing instrumentation during the surgery.
