Job Opening: Clinical Nurse Manager for California Outpatient Surgery Center

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the administrative operations of a new $17 million dollar center opening in the summer of 2011.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Directs the day-to-day activities and operations of the surgery center which includes (4) ORs and (4) procedure rooms and approximately 20 FTEs.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Center, the community, and the other local healthcare providers.
  • Fosters and maintains a collegial relationship with physicians.
  • Develops methods and systems to collect and monitor data to achieve optimum performance and ensure the highest standards of care are delivered.
  • Analyzes all surgery center financial reports (Fees, A/R, A/P, and Insurance Reimbursement)
  • Prepares and maintains operating, capital, and cash budgets for the facility.
  • Monitors facility operating statistics and referral patterns to isolate trends.
  • Monitors budgeted procedure volumes.
  • Establishes and implements a protocol for ordering supplies, equipment, narcotics, etc. Monitors supply usage and costs.
  • Monitors case cost analysis.
  • Plans for future improvement in procedures and organization of the surgery center.
  • Recommends and plans new programs to be developed within the surgery center

 

Ideal Experience

  • BSN required, Masters or MBA desired.
  • 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Experienced in ambulatory surgery center development and operations. CASA certification desired.
  • Strong knowledge of state licensure and TJC regulations related to an ambulatory surgery center.
    • Computer literate and skilled in Excel and PowerPoint.

Beckman Research Institute

Beckman is dedicated to promoting innovative and creative laboratory research as well as educating future scientists in the biological sciences.  The Research Institute provides an environment of academic freedom in which its investigators can pursue scientific knowledge and discoveries for the greater good of humankind.  Basic research of the highest caliber is directed toward an improved understanding of the essential molecules and fundamental processes of life, including those processes important to the causes, prevention and cures of human disease.

 

City of Hope established its research institute in the 1950s. In 1983, it became the first of five Beckman Research Institutes established through generous support from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.  Divisions and departments include Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Virology, Radiation Biology, Surgical Research, Hematological Research, Gene Expression and Drug Discovery, and Cancer Immunotherapy.  The research faculty at the Institute has grown to over 80 Ph.D.s and M.D.s in the professor series working on a variety of basic and clinical research projects of relevance to cancer.

 

The Graduate School of Biological Sciences was approved by the State of California in 1994 and offers a Ph.D. degree in diverse fields of biological sciences.  Accreditation was awarded in February 2001 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and average 60-65 doctoral students.  In addition, the Institute is home to an active undergraduate summer research program that provides a stimulating laboratory research experience for 30-50 students annually, many of whom are from minority communities.

 

The impact of Beckman is evidenced by its scientific accomplishments, including the first laboratory synthesis of human insulin and the development of recombinant human growth hormone.  City of Hope researchers also first demonstrated that antibodies could be made using recombinant (genetically engineered) DNA technology which led to one of the dominant patents in the field of recombinant antibodies. Genentech used this technology to create the cancer-fighting drugs Herceptin®, Rituxan® and Avastin®, which represent a major source of royalty income for research support.  Looking forward, City of Hope is poised to extend its preeminence in stem cell transplantation and research as well as experimental therapeutics for cancer and other diseases.

 

Throughout its history, Beckman has promoted translational research, emphasizing the importance of moving discoveries from the laboratory bench to the patient bedside.  The opening of the Center for Biomedicine and Genetics (CBG) has greatly enhanced this effort.  CBG is the largest pilot “Good Manufacturing Process” (GMP) facility of its type (20,650 square feet) in an academic setting in the U.S.  The Center was developed to produce clinical-grade biologicals for Phase I and II clinical trials.  The CBG is dedicated to facilitating the development of innovative biologicals discovered by City of Hope investigators, colleagues and partners, and to establishing working relationships with regional biopharmaceutical and academic organizations.  Further development and commercialization of successful products will be licensed to or co-developed with commercial organizations.
