Job Opening at New York Medical Group for Clinical Documentation Specialist

A medical group in Long Island, N.Y., is looking for a clinical documentation specialist.

This individual will be responsible for improving the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation through interactions with physicians, nursing staff, case management and medical record coding staff. Additional responsibilities include facilitating modifications to clinical documentation to ensure accurate depiction of the level of clinical services and patient severity.

The clinical documentation specialist will also educate members of the patient care team, provide educational programs as required and participate in select committees on an ongoing basis. This individual will also review the quality of medical record documentation in the selected diagnostic categories and identify and convey deficiencies to house staff and attending physicians.

Clinical experience is needed, but can be with foreign medical jobs. Qualifications for this position include:
•    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field, required. Master's Degree preferred.
•    Currently licensed and/or registered as a Professional Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of New York, required.
•    Minimum of five years of progressive clinical experience in an acute care setting. Previous experience in chart review required. Regulatory background and DRG reimbursement knowledge preferred.
•    Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and other clinical professional staff.
This individual will work Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm with the understanding that extra hours may be necessary.
