Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Rejects $37M in Federal Funding for Health Insurance Exchange
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will reject $37 million in funding for a health insurance exchange from the federal government, according to a Green Bay Press Gazette report.
Gov. Walker announced in Dec. 2011 that the state would not pursue implementing the exchange until the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the constitutionality of the healthcare reform law. He did not specify whether the state would accept the funding at that time.
On Wednesday, Gov. Walker said the state would turn down the Early Innovator Grant because it didn't make sense to commit to reforms that could damage the state economically.
Health insurance exchanges are designed to allow individuals and small businesses to comparison shop for health insurance in an online marketplace, potentially driving down the cost of coverage.
