Why millennials aren't buying into the ACA — 5 points

The Affordable Care Act may need millennial enrollment to survive, but many of these younger Americans simply cannot afford it, according to an article David Barnes, policy director of Generation Opportunity, published in The Wall Street Journal.

Here are five points:

1. Millennials, as a whole, are healthy, which is why the Obama administration has targeted them for ACA enrollment.

2. Since the ACA's implementation, the number of enrollees under the age of 34 has remained stagnant at nearly 28 percent.

3. Nearly 16 percent of Americans aged between 25 and 34 are uninsured, starkly higher than 71 percent of 45 to 65 year olds.

4. The Obama administration is launching a campaign to get millennials to enroll in ACA coverage. The administration is utilizing social media, using the #HealthyAdulting hashtag, to appeal to this cohort.

5. Mr. Barnes argues the ACA is not a 'good' deal for millennials due to its high deductibles. As millennials start their careers, many lack the capital to purchase ACA coverage.
