Vermont Progresses Toward Single-Payor Healthcare System

The Green Mountain Care Board in Vermont is continuing to work toward a publicly financed single payor healthcare system by 2017, according to Healthcare Finance News.

The GMCB has pending proposals with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to try out payment models that are based around accountable care organizations, bundled payments and pay for performance — all models revolving around cost reduction.

The organization has been working since 2012 to help design payment reform models. The independent advisory board is also overseeing payment delivery models for Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payors going into 2015, according to the report.
