UnitedHealth Group Q3 2016 revenues hit $46.3B — 16 report highlights

UnitedHealth Group reported its third quarter results, with revenues of $46.3 billion.

Here are 16 report highlights:

1. The company's revenues increased 12 percent, or $4.8 billion, year-over-year.

2. UnitedHealth Group's third quarter earnings from operations increased 19 percent year-over-year to $3.6 billion. The adjusted net earnings hit $2.17 per share, up 23 percent.

3. Cash flows from operations were $7.2 billion in the third quarter of 2016.

4. The company's consolidated medical care ratio decreased 60 basis points year-over-year.

5. Third quarter 2016 days claims payable of 52 days rose by two days year-over-year.

6. UnitedHealth Group's debt to total capital ratio hit 46.9 percent at Sept. 30, down from 48.89 percent at Sept. 30, 2015.

7. UnitedHealth Group changed its outlook for 2016 GAAP net earnings to about $7.45 per share. Additionally, the company adjusted its net earnings to about $8 per share, up from its previous outlook of $7.80 to $7.95.

UnitedHealthcare

8. In the third quarter, UnitedHealthcare grew to serve about 200,000 more consumers in domestic medical benefits markets.

9. UnitedHealthcare saw third quarter earnings from operations increase to $2.1 billion, up 13 percent year-over-year.

10. UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual revenues increased $1.4 billion to $13.3 billion in the third quarter of 2016. This growth was due to an increase in consumers as well as price increase for medical cost trends on risk-based products.

11. UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement revenues reached $13.9 billion, up 14 percent year-over-year. In the third quarter, the company served 50,000 more seniors in Medicare Advantage.

12. UnitedHealthcare Community & State revenues increased to $8.3 billion, up 12 percent year-over-year. In the third quarter, the company served 115,000 additional consumers in Medicaid.

Optum

13. Optum revenues increased 9 percent year-over-year to $21.1 billion.

14. OptumHealth revenues grew $800 million to $4.2 billion, year-over-year, serving 81 million consumers at Sept. 30.

15. OptumInsight revenues increased 15 percent year-over-year to $1.8 billion in the third quarter.

16. OptumRx revenues hit $15.2 billion, up 6 percent year-over-year.
