UnitedHealth Group agreed on $11.5 million to settle lawsuits surrounding insurer pay and codes claims that physicians and state medical societies levied against them, reports CT Now.
Here are four things to know about the settlement:
1. UnitedHealth settled with medical societies from Connecticut, New York, Tennessee and North Carolina; four of the 19 states that initially brought forward the lawsuit over 10 years ago.
2. UnitedHealth Group will spend $9 million to enhance its website which is often used by physicians when they file claims.
3. UnitedHealth Group spokesman Daryl Richard said that he is pleased the litigation is over, and that physicians will now have an easier time with claims management information through the website enhancements.
4. Additional money will be paid toward educational groups and medical societies, as well as creating a "Physician Advisory Council" in Connecticut, New York and Tennessee.
