Uninsured Wisconsin population falls 40% — 5 points

While the number of uninsured Dane County residents has dropped by almost 40 percent in the last two years, a large number of residents still lack health insurance, according to Wisconsin State Journal.

Here are five points:

1. In Dane County, nearly 24,000 people do not have health insurance. Even those people with health insurance have difficulty getting or paying for care.

2. Nine percent of Dane County residents under the age of 65 were uninsured in 2013.

3. With the expansion of BadgerCare, Wisconsin's Medicaid program, more than 10,000 people gained access to health insurance from late 2013 to June 2015.

4. Residents said they find it challenging to obtain dental and mental healthcare, and have trouble navigating the healthcare system.

5. Many people struggle to pay co-pays and high deductibles.
