US exces turning on insurance industry — 4 insights

An article in boingboing, argued U.S. executives are turning away from the health insurance industry.

Here's what you should know:

1. Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger are both in favor of single payer insurance. They believe the insurance industry is depressing national competitiveness.

2. Walmart, Boeing and GE stopped buying insurance from payers, instead opting to buy services for their employees from hospitals and healthcare providers.

3. Former Cigna Vice President of Communications Wendell Potter is an advocate for single payer healthcare as well. Mr. Potter wrote internal Cigna polls say only 19 percent of the U.S. views insurers favorably.

4. Consulting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers released analysis showing medical spending will continue to outpace the consumer price index.
