Two Quick Tips to Maintain an Effective Collections Process
April Sackos, director of business office operations for Meridian Surgical Partners, shares two pieces of advice to help an ASC maintain a good collections process.
1. Communicate expectations. Collections is a team effort and communication is key. Make sure that you are conducting regular staff meetings. Post your monthly cash goal and post total collections daily so that your business office staff can monitor their progress. It is very important that staff understand their roles and management's expectations. Business office managers need to review aging buckets to identify trends before they become a problem.
2. Thank your staff. Collections can be a thankless job and a little praise goes a long way. Thank your employees every day and when possible, reward a great collections month with a luncheon, gift card or even cash.
