Trump tells Republicans who vote against AHCA voters will replace them in 2018

President Donald Trump told U.S. House Republicans on March 21, 2017, their constituents would vote them out of office in 2018 if they don't vote to pass the American Health Care Act when it comes up for a vote on Thursday, Politico reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. President Trump spoke to the house at the bequest of House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and other GOP leaders. Speaker Ryan supports the AHCA and has been a leader in the GOP efforts to repeal and replace the ACA. HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, and Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney accompanied President Trump.

2. The Freedom Caucus Republicans do not support the AHCA, as they feel it doesn't go far enough in achieving their healthcare objectives. President Trump singled out Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who has repeatedly said he'd vote no on the bill.

3. Rep. Meadows said the President's address didn't sway him.

4. President Trump advocated strongly for the bill's passage saying, "I'm asking for your vote on Thursday. Many of you came in on the pledge to repeal and replace Obamacare. I honestly think many of you will lose your seats in 2018 if you don't get this done."

5. President Trump is optimistic about the bill's chances to pass the house on Thursday. He said of the vote, "We're going to have a real winner. It was a great meeting. They're terrific people. They want a tremendous health plan. That's what we have and there are going to be adjustments to it. But I think we'll get the votes."

6. The New York Times has tracked how Republicans plan to vote Thursday. All Democratic Representatives oppose the measure. Of House Republicans, 136 support the bill, 52 are undecided and 48 have concerns. To advance through the House, the bill needs 216 votes.
