Thousands of patients see data stolen from New Jersey hospital: 6 things to know

An employee of Medical Management, a medical billing company, gave away names, social security numbers and birthdates of patients.

Here are six things to know:

1. The company is cooperating with federal authorities in their investigation.

2. Patients of the hospitals were alerted of the breach.

3. The company is offering free identity theft protection services to those affected.

4. The company also says the data was not sold or disclosed to third parties.

5. Englewood Hospital in New Jersey is setting up a hotline for concerned patients.

6. Patients were also warned from White Plains Hospital in New York and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
