The Medicare battle in New Jersey

Those who want Medicare coverage for power wheelchairs in New Jersey will need an administrator's approval first, called "prior-authorization," reported NJ.com.

The program also includes Medicare patients who use hyperbaric oxygen tanks, and will be imposed by the federal government due to "excessive" and fraudulent uses of power wheelchairs and hyperbaric oxygen tanks in New Jersey, according to the report.

Jim Quiggle, director of Communications for The Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, told NJ.com that although Medicare fraud is not limited to New Jersey, it has become a "hot-button" state for it, where the temptation for healthcare providers to cut corners is high to bill Medicare for a chair sold to a patient that may not need one.
