Texas Senator Calls for Two-Year Pay Fix for Physicians

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) is proposing a 0.5 percent increase in Medicare reimbursements for physicians in 2011 and 2012, rather than a one-year fix in reimbursements proposed by Sen. Max Baucus in his health reform bill, according to a release by Sen. Cornyn.

Sen. Cornyn said that under the Baucus bill, physicians would face a 25 percent pay cut in 2011 unless Congress acts to stop it, which it has done in previous years.

The Senate Finance Committee rejected Mr. Cornyn's proposal but he said he plans to continue pursuing it.
