Shifting gears: US wants Congress to shelf healthcare reform

Americans want Congress to put healthcare reform to rest, at least for now, according to a Reueters/Ipsos opinion poll.

Here are five things to know:

1. Almost 66 percent of the U.S. public wants leaders to keep or change parts of the ACA.

2. The majority of respondents want Congress to shift their efforts elsewhere. Only 28 percent want Congress members to continue their work on new healthcare legislation.

3. Three-fourths of Republicans want Congress to repeal and replace the ACA at some time; they want leaders to work on other issues now.

4. Americans want leaders to divert their efforts to tax reform, infrastructure and foreign relations.

5. When asked who is most responsible for the failure to pass a reform bill, 20 percent said Senate Republicans and 13 percent blamed President Donald Trump.
