Senate holding bipartisan hearings in attempt to stabilize individual insurance market — 4 insights

The U.S. Senate is holding bipartisan hearings with state governors and health insurance commissioners in an attempt to stabilize the individual health insurance marketplace, the Tennessean reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The hearings will center on the ACA, in light of failed attempts to repeal and replace the ACA.

2. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., said by the end of September, he hopes to provide the 18 million Americans with insurance purchase coverage through ACA exchanges "peace of mind" that options will be available at a "reasonable price."

3. The hearings will be a bipartisan effort with senators from both parties present.

4. Mr. Alexander reiterated his support for the bipartisan effort saying, "Any solution that Congress passes for a 2018 stabilization package will have to be small, bipartisan and balanced."
