Republicans push forward healthcare bill before Trump's 100th day in office

Various Republican officials are pushing forth a healthcare bill to repeal the ACA as President Donald Trump's 100th day in office inches nearer, according to The New York Times.

Here are four points:

1. Other party members want to focus on the nation's dwindling budget and time is of the essence as many Republican leaders are prioritizing keeping the government open past midnight this Friday, April 28, NYT reports.

Rep. Dan Donovan, R-N.Y., said, "I believe that when we first go back, that's going to be the thing we’ll address immediately and have to get done by Friday."

2. Politico published the GOP's latest healthcare proposal on April 19 which showed the bill featured many ACA elements like guaranteed coverage for emergency services and maternity care. The proposal would maintain the ACA's mandated coverage for patients with pre-existing medical conditions.

3. This proposal differs from the ACA in that it would allow states to obtain waivers concerning some ACA mandates if they show they will lower premiums, increase the number of insured Americans or preserve public interest.

4. The NYT reports the proposal's trajectory to approval remains up in the air. In a briefing interview on April 19, Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said, "We want to make sure we replace it [the ACA] with something that will stand the test of time. Now we're taking our time. We realize that this is real - that it's going to affect people in a real way."
