Remaining insurer in 25 Missouri counties exits ACA marketplace

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City will stop selling plans in the Missouri ACA exchange in 2018, according to The Hill.

Here are four things to know:

1. Without the payer, 25 state counties may have no options for insurance on the exchange.

2. Blue KC is exiting the exchange due to financial losses and marketplace uncertainty.

Blue KC President and CEO Danette Wilson said in a statement, "Like many other health insurers across the country, we have been faced with challenges in this market. Through 2016, we have lost more than $100 million."

3. The exit leaves two counties with only one payer offering plans.

4. Blue KC is not the first payer to pull its plans; In May, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee said it would cease offering plans in Knoxville.
