Pres.-elect Donald Trump: Health 'insurance for everyone' & 4 other elements of his ACA replacement

The Washington Post interviewed President-elect Donald Trump over the weekend about healthcare; Mr. Trump reported his plan would provide "insurance for everybody," according to the report.

Here are five key notes on The Washington Post's interview:

1. Mr. Trump reported he plans to require drug companies to negotiate directly with the government for Medicare and Medicaid pricing. He said the pharmaceutical industry would no longer be "politically protected." A law created in 2003 currently prohibits those negotiations.

2. Congress, led by Republicans, is expected to quickly make moves to repeal the ACA in addition to initiatives like "enacting sweeping tax cuts," according to the report.

3. The ACA replacement plan is close to finished, Mr. Trump reported, and said revealing the plan depends on his HHS secretary nominee Rep. Tom Price, MD, R.-Ga., to receive confirmation. He plans to unveil the plan with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

4. Mr. Trump said he doesn't support a single-payer system, but his plan will include coverage for everyone.

5. Mr. Trump said his plan does not cut Medicare benefits.
