Premiums increasing 16%; will premiums escalate in 2017? 4 notes

An Avalere Health analysis found proposed Affordable Care Act premiums for silver plans are rising 16 percent, on average, in nine states that have completed data, according to The Hill.

Here are four notes:

1. The increases for silver plans vary significantly by states, with Vermont experiencing a 44 percent increase and Washington having a 5 percent increase.

2. Avalere's 2015 analysis found an average premium increase of nearly 6 percent.

3. The analysis is limited in that the increases are not finalized as state regulators can still reject them.

4. Additionally, all states' premium rates are likely to see increases heading into 2017.

"While rates can come down dramatically between proposed and final filings, Avalere analysts say premium increases in 2017 appear to be higher than in 2016," the analysis stated.
