Physician group implores CMS to give basic MIPS info to physicians: 4 highlights

With pay-for-performance reimbursement systems gaining traction, Colorado-based Medical Group Management Association sent a letter to CMS asking the agency to give physicians more information about the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, according to Health Data Management.

Here are four highlights:

1. The physician group said the government has not sent providers eligibility notifications regarding MIPS. CMS should have sent the information in December 2016.

2. MGMA also says physicians have not received their status regarding if they are hospital-based or non-patient-facing clinicians. They have not received lists of approved registry vendors, the association claims.

3. In the letter, MGMA states, "Transitioning to MIPS is a challenge involving upgrades to EHR software, re-engineering clinical workflows to meet data capture and reporting requirements, contracting with data registries and training clinical and administrative staff," according to Health Data Management.

4. Based on these challenges, MGMA says providers need basic information concerning their eligibility.
