Medicaid sees 3.4M enrollees in deadlocked election year: 5 things to know

According to a PwC report, 3.4 million people enrolled into Medicaid this year, contributing to a 20.5 million increase since 2013, Forbes reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. As more states opt into the ACA's Medicaid expansion program, the number of enrollees continues to grow.

2. Of the ACA's enrollee base, 54.7 million or 74 percent are Medicaid beneficiaries enrolled in private plans that are contracted.

3. The growth is down by 5 million from 2015, when Medicaid enrolled 8 million.

4. Insurers are reaping the benefits of the expanded Medicaid program and its insurance base.

5. President of Medicaid Health Plans of America Jeff Meyers expects more states to join the program in 2017, dependent on the election.
