HealthCare.gov's window-shopping feature is undergoing updates to enable consumers to browse for taxpayer-subsidized health insurance places, according to Chicago Tribune.
Here are five notes:
1. Prior to the update, consumers had to do quite a bit of research on the site to find out plan details.
2. Consumers will now be able to enter their physicians, hospitals and medications when they browse the site. As they compare plans, viewers can see which physicians, hospitals and drugs are covered.
3. The updated site will give consumers a rough estimate of total costs by adding up premiums, cost-sharing for services and deductibles.
4. The site is undergoing tests with data provided by major payers. Planners expect the site to be able to function on smartphones as well as tablets.
5. Through HealthCare.gov and state markets, approximately 10.5 million uninsured individuals are eligible for coverage.
