How often do patients seek healthcare pricing information? 5 things to know

Price transparency has become a significant trend in healthcare. Companies, individual providers and even state legislation are shedding light on the cost of care. Here are five things to know about patients in the United States that are seeking out cost information, according to a Public Agenda research report.

•    56 percent of patients have tried to determine their out-of-pocket cost or how much an insurer will pay their provider prior to receiving care.
•    67 percent of patients with deductibles of $500 to $3,000 tried to determine the cost of care prior to the date of service.
•    74 percent of patients with deductibles higher than $3,000 tried to determine the cost of care prior to the date of service.
•    62 percent of patients with college degrees have sought out pricing information prior to receiving care.
•    59 percent of female patients have sought out pricing information prior to receiving care.
