HHS secretary proclaims SC Medicaid expansion inevitable: 3 notes

The Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said Medicaid expansion in South Carolina was "not a question of if, [but] a question of when," The Post and Courier reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. Ms. Burwell said the advantages of Medicaid expansion would be clearer as time went on.

2. She added governors would have conversations amongst themselves but would soon face pressure from the Republican Party in their state legislatures to expand the service.

3. Ms. Burwell did not have an answer for what the government could do to close the service gap for individuals in South Carolina. Several individuals are not eligible for Medicaid but cannot insurance offered through the Affordable Care Act.
