GOP changing strategy after first two healthcare bill vote failures — 4 insights

In their attempt to pass an ACA alternative, Congressional Republicans are shifting their focus from an all-out appeal to an advanced drafting process, CNN reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. A proposal to repeal the ACA without a replacement and another proposal to pass a measure offering "bare-bones health insurance plans" both failed this week in the Senate.

2. Political analysts report Republicans may attempt to adjust the bill so it will advance it to committee; then they can work with the U.S. House on an all-encompassing bill.

3. Analysts believe it may take longer than a week to reach a broader agreement on a large healthcare policy.

4. HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, said the White House wants the Senate to "reach the 'lowest common denominator,'" to advance a proposal.

He told CNN, "What gets us to 50 votes so that we can move forward on a healthcare reform legislation … that's what needs to happen."
