CoPatient co-fights billing discrepancies with consumers

One Boston-based startup, CoPatient, has been going a step farther than price transparency — they're processing bills and telling consumers who owes what, reports Med City News.

CoPatient was founded by Rebecca Palm and Katie Vahle, two former athenahealth employees, in 2012.

The company works directly with consumers to resolve any dispute on overcharges, generating revenue by taking 35 percent of the savings it finds.

Company officials claim CoPatient finds errors on 80 percent of the bills it reviews and saves an average of $3,000 for consumers.

CoPatient has raised $4.7 million to date. Investors include Cambia Health Solutions, .406 Ventures and athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush.
