AMA group developing telemedicine codes — 4 points

An American Medical Association Group is meeting to incorporate telemedicine services into the Current Procedural Terminology code set, according to mHealth News.

Here are four points:

1. The group consists of more than 50 members including physicians, telemedicine entrepreneurs and payers.

2. The AMA group will  make coding changes and additions to the CPT code set.

3. The coding changes will make it easier for providers to accurately bill for home monitoring, mHealth and various other telemedicine services.

4. AMA President Steven Stock, MD, said, "Input from the Telehealth Services Workgroup will help the CPT code set reflect new technological and telehealth advancements available to mainstream clinical practice, and ensures the code set can fulfill its role as the health system's common language for reporting contemporary medical procedures."
