AAPC survey: Most ready for ICD-10, think testing successful

More than 2,000 people responded to a recent survey conducted by the AAPC regarding CMS' ICD-10 readiness testing. The vast majority — 84 percent — said they'd describe it as a success, reports ICD-10 Monitor.

The positivity among the survey's respondents wasn't just there in terms of overall impression, either. The respondents said they saw that they were, more or less, ready for the changeover.

Seventy-two percent of the survey's respondents said they had no claims denied during the November round of end-to-end testing — when the CMS tested more than 13,000 claims from more than 500 providers — and an even higher 90 percent said they noticed no payment shift on claims they tested.

About a third of respondents used Medicaid and Medicare testing, though most performed their testing with a private party.

The survey also addressed the much worried-over cost of ICD-10 compliance. Its findings show that 72 percent of respondents spent less than $5,000 per provider to become ICD-10 ready.

Two percent said they spent more than $10,000 or nothing at all on the switchover.
