6 ways payers and providers can reduce claim denials

For payers and providers, communication needs to increase so claim denial can decrease, HealthPayer Intelligence reports

Here are six things you can do to increase the chance your claim is approved.

1. Create clarity and spell out policies your employees should follow to reduce error rates.

2. Track the rate of claim denials and work on improving performance in this area.

3. Healthcare payers need to work with providers to quickly and efficiently communicate claims. Effective communication allows payers to create more efficiencies in their reimbursement cycles.

4. Invest in new technology. With the growth the health IT field is experiencing, healthcare payers could benefit from this growth by improving the reimbursement cycle with automation technology.

Adopt more recent health IT technology that contains sufficient privacy and security controls.

5. Keep track of coding. With more codes affecting the payer-provider relationship, providers are advised to monitor the entire claim process more carefully.

6. Before sending a claim to a payer, fix any potential medical coding issues to ensure you're fairly reimbursed for your healthcare service.
