4 interventional spine pain procedures see 16%+ lower payment in 2017 — could the downward trend reverse next year?

CMS' 2017 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule once again included payment cuts for interventional pain management procedures performed in ASCs.

The pay cuts went into effect Jan. 1, 2017 and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians is asking members and ASC owners to connect with them if they're interested in supporting efforts to halt any further cuts. The cuts include:

• Epidurals: 16.3 percent
• Facet joint injections: 25 percent
• Adhesiolysis: 25 percent
• Sacroiliac joint injections: 16 percent

ASIPP feels there is a possibility of reversing cuts retroactively with the new administration and reinstating previous reimbursement rates or improving the reimbursement rate for next year.
