The Joint Commission to provide accreditation for US Air Force's ambulatory healthcare facilities: 5 key notes

The U.S. Air Force selected The Joint Commission to provide accreditation services for its ambulatory healthcare facilities.

Here are five key notes:

1. The agreeement is effective July 2015 to Deccember 2019.

2. The U.S. Air Force has 62 ambulatory facilities worldwide that The Joint Commission will accredit.

3. There are more than 8 million service members and service member family members who receive care at the U.S. Air Force's ambulatory healthcare facilities.

4. The facilities will undergo a rigorous on-site survey where the surveyors will evaluate compliance with ambulatory standards related to a variety of areas, including infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management and patient education.

5. The Air Force will have the option to undergo the Primary Care Medical Home Certification from The Joint Commission.

"We are excited to work closely with the U.S. Air Force over the next four years to accredit its ambulatory healthcare facilities and provide these locations with the processes, tools and resources needed to improve operations and assist with risk management and risk reduction," said The Joint Commission's Director of Goverment Programs, Accreditation and Certification Operations Mark Albrecht, RN, MSN.
